ITS launches Cisco-powered DDoS protect service /its-launches-cisco-powered-ddos-protect-service/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 12:27:22 +0000 /?p=12557 ITS launches ‘ITS SecureEdge’ delivering enterprise-grade security to every business, making resilience accessible and affordable.

ITS has announced the launch of ITS SecureEdge, a new value-added service designed to protect businesses of all sizes from Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

The service, which will leverage Cisco Secure DDoS Protection technology, is part of ITS’s wider mission to redefine what business connectivity looks like in the “fibre utility” era, moving beyond pure bandwidth into smarter, more equitable infrastructure solutions.

“Connectivity has to be more than speed alone,” said Pete England, Product Director at ITS.

“We’re investing in innovation that directly answers the real-world risks businesses face every day. DDoS attacks can cripple an organisation in minutes – from online retailers losing sales, to schools and councils losing critical digital services. With this launch, we’re making protection simple, affordable, and built into the network itself.”

Traditionally, DDoS mitigation has been the preserve of large enterprises and government, relying on solutions that backhaul traffic to off-site scrubbing centers – often at significant cost and prohibitive in today’s low latency application environments.

ITS’s new approach brings protection closer to the edge of the network, utilising AI to allow always-on monitoring, ultra-fast mitigation and accuracy at scale. Crucially, it also takes the security measures available to a much wider business audience

Its distributed model avoids the costly redirection to external scrubbing centres, reducing mitigation times from minutes to seconds. The service evolves continuously as Cisco Secure DDoS Protection learns from global attack patterns.

ITS SecureEdge has been designed for businesses of every size – not just those with enterprise budgets. Where legacy services often cost thousands of pounds a year, ITS has designed a model that is a modest uplift on existing connectivity, ensuring SMEs, schools, and public sector organisations can access the same protection as global enterprises.

Benefits for customers include:

●    Business continuity – critical services stay online even during attacks.
●    Cost savings – predictable subscription pricing with no need for specialist in-house solutions.
●    Brand and trust protection – reducing reputational risk from outages or breaches.
●    Futureproofing – protection that evolves automatically against new and emerging threats.

“Every customer deserves the same standard of security, regardless of their size or sector,” added England. “We’ve built this as a single-tier service – no bronze, silver or gold – because resilience shouldn’t be reserved for those who can pay a premium. That’s what equity in infrastructure really means.”

Natalie Jones-Owen, Managing Director, Service Provider Sales at Cisco comments, “By integrating Cisco’s DDoS Protection technology directly into ITS’s edge device portfolio, we’re enabling a seamless, inline defense that accelerates both detection and mitigation—right at the network’s edge. This enhances protection by responding to threats in real time and helps reduce the load and associated costs on traditional scrubbing centres.  This allows operators to deliver advanced security more efficiently and affordably to a wider range of customers. We’re pleased to support ITS in making highly resilient, future-ready security accessible to all.”

With ITS Secure DDoS Smart Protection, the company extends its lead in building innovative, modular solutions that help partners and customers prepare for the next decade of digital society.

  • 24/7/364 intelligent mitigation
  • Scalable to handle modern volumetric attacks
  • Simple deployment with minimal disruption
  • Backed by ITS and Cisco experts

ITS awarded contract to deliver full fibre to power Deep Green’s ‘lighthouse’ data centre /its-full-fibre-deep-greens-lighthouse-data-centre/ Wed, 24 Sep 2025 07:59:41 +0000 /?p=12520 ITS has been chosen as the full fibre infrastructure provider for Deep Green’s flagship data centre, currently under development in Urmston, Greater Manchester.

Based next to move Urmston Leisure Centre, the data centre known as DG01, is a ‘lighthouse’ project in Deep Green’s UK roadmap. It will showcase an innovative model, combining high-performance compute capabilities with local infrastructure, harnessing heat energy that can be reused for the public good.

It creates a blueprint for Deep Green’s compact, sustainable data centres nationwide.

DG01 will capture up to 96% of the heat produced by its servers and equipment, using it to warm move Urmston’s swimming pool water. It is estimated that this will cut the leisure centre’s carbon dioxide emissions by 150 tonnes each year annually, and it is estimated that this will save up to £80,000 in energy costs. The waste heat could also be used in the future to benefit other local businesses, industrial processes, and public spaces.

Designed for high density workloads, including high performance compute and AI, DG01 will support hardware (servers and processors) that can draw 400 kW of power within a 240m2 footprint, supporting up to 100 kW per rack.

ITS’s established full fibre footprint across Urmston will enable the fast delivery of connections linking the data centre to businesses that choose to co-locate there. And it was the regional presence that was a key factor in Deep Green’s decision to select ITS as its connectivity partner.

Dave Ferry, Chief Sales Officer at ITS, said:

“DG01 is one of the most innovative data centre blueprints in the UK, and it demands digital infrastructure that can match its ambition. Our network will provide the platform that AI and high-performance computing require, while also being a very exciting addition to our substantial data centre footprint across our national network. As we already serve Urmston, we can move quickly to install with minimal disruption. Through DG01, businesses will thrive, advanced workloads will run at full potential, and technology will deliver measurable social and environmental value.”

Mark Lee, CEO of Deep Green, said:

“ITS has been engaged with us from the very beginning of the design process, ensuring our objectives were fully understood and building a genuine culture of partnership. As a B2B specialist with a proven network across Greater Manchester and competitively priced services, ITS are committed to go to market alongside us to help deliver this project. Their full fibre infrastructure gives us the speed and reliability our partners and their clients demand. Our mission is to prove that data centres don’t have to cost the earth – in either environmental or financial terms.”

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council and Greater Manchester’s Green City Region portfolio holder, said:

“This is a great example of how public and private sectors can work together to create real change. ITS invested in rolling out a high-capacity full fibre network across Urmston several years ago to meet growing local business demand for high speed services, and this partnership with Deep Green shows how that investment continues to deliver new value. Not only will this development benefit our community directly, it will also play a vital role in achieving our 2038 net-zero target and delivering on Greater Manchester’s Five-Year Environment Plan, creating a ripple effect of benefits for our citizens.”

Jo Cherrett, CEO of Trafford Leisure, a community interest company wholly owned by Trafford Council, which manages leisure in Trafford on behalf of the council, said:

“Operating some of the most energy-intensive public facilities means we have a responsibility to look for smarter, greener ways to meet our community’s needs. DG01 is a perfect example of how innovation in one sector can transform outcomes in another. Thanks to the robust full fibre infrastructure being delivered by ITS, the data centre will have the always-on connectivity it needs to serve businesses, while its design will capture and reuse heat for our pool and facilities. The reduction in our energy costs and carbon footprint will allow us to reinvest those savings directly into improving services, programmes, and accessibility for local residents. For us, this is a beacon for what sustainable public leisure can look like.”

Crawley secures futureproof full fibre connectivity with ITS and Towns Fund investment /crawley-secures-futureproof-full-fibre-with-its/ Tue, 02 Sep 2025 08:03:52 +0000 /?p=12069 ITS has been awarded the contract to build and operate a brand new 32km full fibre network across Crawley, following a competitive tender by Crawley Borough Council. Funded by the Towns Fund and backed by additional private investment from ITS, the project will extend full fibre access to over 1,500 businesses, including more than 700 within Manor Royal Business District – one of the largest and most diverse business hubs in the UK.

Despite Crawley’s strong economic performance, parts of the town have historically lacked access to modern digital infrastructure. This new network will directly address this, as well as findings from the 2022 Manor Royal BID Survey, which identified poor broadband speeds as the most significant issue facing local businesses.

Once built, businesses will be able to choose from a wide range of gigabit-capable full fibre services through ITS’s service provider partners. The project will help deliver on the Towns Fund’s aims to boost economic growth through regeneration, improved transport, faster digital connectivity, and the development of local skills and culture.

Through ITS’s social value programme, the project will support existing local sustainability initiatives and introduce new activities aimed at bridging the digital divide. This includes digital skills training, community engagement, and support for underserved groups to ensure that the benefits of full fibre connectivity are felt across the town.

Michael Jones, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, said:

“This project is in direct response to what our business community told us they needed. It’s a great example of how public and private sector expertise and investment can come together to deliver real, lasting impact.

“Crawley’s proximity to Gatwick Airport and its excellent transport links make it attractive to businesses locating to the area. The new network will help to ensure Crawley continues to attract both established industries and emerging sectors.”

Steve Sawyer, Executive Director, Manor Royal BID, said:

“Manor Royal is one of the UK’s largest business parks, home to more than 700 businesses, with around 30,000 people working here. When the BID was first created in 2013, the park was struggling, and broadband was one of the biggest issues holding us back. Getting superfast connectivity made a huge difference, but companies are now demanding more.

“We are excited by this announcement and the transformative investment being made in this new full fibre network. It will give every business access to high-quality, futureproof connectivity at an affordable price. It won’t just be the preserve of those who can afford to buy bespoke solutions – it will deliver the speeds and reliability that a modern business park like Manor Royal needs to thrive.”

Daren Baythorpe, CEO of ITS, said:

“Crawley is a thriving hub of enterprise and innovation, and we’re proud to be the trusted partner delivering the next-generation digital infrastructure it needs to stay ahead. This full fibre rollout will provide future-proof connectivity for businesses of all sizes, driving sustainable growth and long-term competitiveness across the region.

“But it’s not just about technology – it’s also about people. Our social value programme ensures that the benefits of this investment extend beyond business, empowering local communities and helping more people access the opportunities of an increasingly digital world.”

ITS Chairman Kevin Gaskell Sets World Record as Oldest Person to Row the Pacific Ocean with Record Breaking Ocean5 Crew /its-chairman-breaking-records/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 08:43:22 +0000 /?p=11342 ITS is proud to announce that Chairman Kevin Gaskell and the Ocean5 crew are officially the fastest five-man crew to complete the Mid-Pacific route, rowing a demanding 2,800-nautical-miles in just 32 days – shattering the previous record by over 19 days. But that’s not all. At 66 years old, Kevin surpasses the former age world record of 63 years, previously held by Huw Carden of Flying Fish, becoming the oldest person to row across the Mid-Pacific Ocean.

Ocean 5

As a major sponsor of the expedition, ITS is honoured to have supported one of the most ambitious endurance challenges of 2025 – a mission that tested the limits of human endurance, resilience, and teamwork. The crew’s route from Monterey, California to Hanalei, Kauai involved rowing non-stop across one of the most formidable stretches of ocean, battling 30-foot waves, extreme fatigue, and a daily burn of more than 6,000 calories per person.

More than a world record attempt, the journey served a powerful purpose: to raise critical funds and awareness for The Lewis Moody Foundation, which supports families affected by brain tumours and funds pioneering research in partnership with The Brain Tumour Charity. Brain tumours remain the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in people under 40, yet receive less than 3% of cancer research funding.

ITS is proud to have played a key role in supporting this historic effort. Kevin’s achievement reinforces the values of collaboration and perseverance that we champion within our own organisation.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Kevin and the entire Ocean5 crew – including Matt Gaskell, Tom Higham, Patrick Deacon, and Stephen Greenan – on their safe arrival in Hawaii and their monumental contribution to such a vital cause.
